Arrests Made in Alleged Religious Conversion Case

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police has apprehended a fugitive suspect along with an accomplice in connection with an alleged illegal conversion case. This information was disclosed in a statement released on Saturday.

According to the statement from the Uttar Pradesh Police, the accused, Jalaluddin alias Changur Baba, who had a bounty of ₹50,000 on his head, and his associate Neetu alias Nasreen, a resident of Balrampur, were arrested in a case registered at the ATS police station in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act.

The statement further revealed that a non-bailable warrant had been issued against Jalaluddin by a court, prompting the police to announce a cash reward for information leading to his capture.

Both suspects were presented in court and, after obtaining remand, were sent to Lucknow District Jail. The case involves allegations under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021, claiming that the accused operated in an organized manner to convert individuals from Hindu and non-Muslim communities to Islam.

The statement detailed that the accused allegedly lured vulnerable individuals, including poor laborers and widows from the Hindu and non-Muslim communities, through financial assistance, false marriage promises, intimidation, and coercion to facilitate religious conversion.

Additionally, it was noted that two other suspects, Naveen alias Jamaluddin and Mahboob (Jalaluddin's son), were arrested on April 8 and are currently incarcerated in Lucknow District Jail.
